Hindsight :: when the cure is worse than the problem
About a year ago I decided to let my natural silver out. I'd been dying it brown for nearly two decades and so when the silver started peeking through, the contrast was stark. I embarked on a mission to see if there might be a less conspicuous, more graceful way of doing it.
Well, I'm here to tell you that there's not... at least for someone who had my color issues to work with. If you want to follow the whole saga you can click on the "going gray" link on the right. But here's the outcome of my latest experiment. My awesome friend Amber (who is not my hairdresser, but would be if we lived in the same city) recommended a product called Malibu Blondes Wellness Treatment to strip the red-orangey-yellowey tint out of the bleached part. (I didn't know that those warm colors are a result of built up mineral deposits.) As you can see, it worked on me a little bit, but not much. I blame all the built up color crap in my hair.
Maybe I'm past the point of no return. The heavy highlights made things less severe until my undercoat started growing out.
And the Malibu Blondes thing was totally worth a try and it was relatively inexpensive. But I think I'm gonna have to go to the salon and get another toner.
